Five Mayo hotels pick up awards at CIE Tours International Awards of Excellence

At a reception in Dublin Castle this week, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring presented plaques to 80 winners at the 24th CIE Tours International Awards of Excellence. Twelve overall category winners (gold awards) from around the country were chosen according to feedback from 28,000 customers on more than 450 providers of accommodation, dining, tours, and attractions. Silver merit awards were presented to those achieving more than 90 per cent in the surveys.

Ballinasloe Library to host annual soapbox competition

The Europe Direct Centre at Ballinasloe Library is organising its annual soapbox competition and is calling for entries over the next two weeks from the people of Galway. The competition is broken up into two categories, one for adults and one for under 18 years. This year’s event will once again take place in the Westside Library in Galway city on Friday November 15 at 8pm.

The Minister for Small Business, John Perry has launched a one-stop-shop event for existing and potential entrepreneurs called ‘Taking Care of Business’. This free event will take place on Tuesday October 22 in the Printworks Conference Centre in Dublin Castle.

MCI Ireland launches film on the impact of domestic abuse on children

A film produced by a Mayo-based organisation on the impact of domestic abuse on children was launched last week in Dublin Castle, by Emily Logan, ombudsman for children. The film, from MCI Ireland, highlights issues that arise for children in the context of domestic abuse after a couple separates. Children’s Ombudsman Emily Logan stressed “the importance of services that not only invest in children and families but that also hear directly from children”, adding that this was the only way “we can get a true understanding of how issues such as domestic violence impact upon them”.
